Jay County Varsity Patriots Keep It Close Against Hamilton Heights, Lose On Walkoff By GameChanger Media Jay County Varsity Patriots fell to Hamilton Heights 5-4 on Thursday at Hamilton Heights High School on the final play of the game. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the seventh when Austin Kappes doubled, scoring one run. Hamilton Heights opened the scoring in the first after Nick Hulen hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. Hamilton Heights scored one run in the bottom of the second on a solo home run to left field by Levi Chandler on a full count. Jay County Varsity Patriots tied the game up in the top of the third thanks to two doubles. Jay County Varsity Patriots tied the game at two on a double by Carter Fugiett. A single by Cohen Boyd gave Hamilton Heights the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the fourth. Jay County Varsity Patriots tied the game in the top of the sixth thanks to a double by Joseph Geesaman, and an error. Kaden Lawson earned the win for Hamilton Heights. The hurler surrendered zero hits and zero runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking two. Gavin Byrum took the loss for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The reliever went two innings, surrendering two runs on three hits, striking out two and walking four. Zedrian Vazquez stepped on the mound first for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The pitcher surrendered four hits and three runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking three. Hulen led things off on the hill for Hamilton Heights. The righty gave up four hits and four runs (two earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking three. Fugiett, Byrum, Andrew Schemenaur, and Geesaman each collected one hit for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Fugiett, Schemenaur, and Geesaman each drove in one run for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Adam Hughes led Hamilton Heights with two hits in three at bats. Hulen, Hughes, Chandler, Boyd, and Kappes each drove in one run for Hamilton Heights. Logan Hickman paced Hamilton Heights with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game.
