Jay County Varsity Patriots Fall To Coldwater Cavaliers After Surrendering Big Fifth Inning By GameChanger Media Coldwater Cavaliers scored eight runs in the fifth inning, which helped them defeat Jay County Varsity Patriots 15-0 on Monday. Coldwater Cavaliers got on the board in the top of the first inning after Jay County Varsity Patriots committed an error, and Baylen Blockberger hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Coldwater Cavaliers added one run in the second after Miles Pottkotter singled to left field following a 6-pitch at-bat. Coldwater Cavaliers scored eight runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning. Bennett Spriggs doubled, scoring one run, Braxton Taylor was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Brady Lefeld doubled, scoring two runs, Mason Welsch doubled, scoring one run, Blockberger doubled, scoring one run, Grant Wendel induced Derek Dues to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Spriggs drew a walk, scoring one run. Owen Kunk earned the win for Coldwater Cavaliers. The pitcher allowed three hits and zero runs over three and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking two. Zedrian Vazquez took the loss for Jay County Varsity Patriots. The starting pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits, striking out one and walking none. Aiden Phillips, Carter Fugiett, Gavin Byrum, and Wendel each collected one hit for Jay County Varsity Patriots. Coldwater Cavaliers accumulated 11 hits in the game. Blockberger provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Coldwater Cavaliers with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-2 on the day. Pottkotter, Blockberger, and Lefeld each collected two hits for Coldwater Cavaliers. Cody Depweg led Coldwater Cavaliers with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Coldwater Cavaliers were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Spriggs made the most plays with 10.
