Finn Hemmelgarn’s Big Day Propels Jay County Baseball Patriots 7th Grade Past Blackford JH Baseball By GameChanger Media Finn Hemmelgarn drove in four runs on two hits to lead Jay County Baseball Patriots 7th Grade past Blackford JH Baseball 10-7 on Thursday at Blackford Junior-Senior High School. Hemmelgarn tripled in the first inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the third inning, scoring one. Jay County Baseball Patriots 7th Grade were the first to get on the board in the first when Hemmelgarn tripled, scoring three runs. Jay County Baseball Patriots 7th Grade extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI singles by Hemmelgarn and Jenson Edwards. A home run to left field by Danny Hornbaker gave Blackford JH Baseball the lead, 7-5, in the bottom of the fourth. Jay County Baseball Patriots 7th Grade jumped into the lead in the top of the fifth when Roman Clamme drew a walk, scoring one run, and an error scored one run. Eli Westgerdes earned the win for Jay County Baseball Patriots 7th Grade. The hurler surrendered three hits and three runs (two earned) over two innings, striking out two and walking three. Logan Hornbaker took the loss for Blackford JH Baseball. The pitcher went four innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on two hits, striking out eight and walking 10. Edwards started on the mound for Jay County Baseball Patriots 7th Grade. The hurler allowed two hits and four runs (three earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out three and walking three. Stratahn Sargent stepped on the mound first for Blackford JH Baseball. The hurler surrendered five hits and five runs (four earned) over three innings, striking out five and walking two. Andrew Myers collected the save. Eli Homan appeared in relief for Jay County Baseball Patriots 7th Grade. Hemmelgarn and Myers each collected two hits for Jay County Baseball Patriots 7th Grade. Jay County Baseball Patriots 7th Grade had patience at the plate, amassing 12 walks for the game. Clamme and Karson Schilling led the team with three walks each. Clamme stole three bases. Leadoff hitter Hornbaker led Blackford JH Baseball with three hits in four at bats. Blackford JH Baseball had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game.
